Kwe'We’re excited for you to start your journey of volunteering with the 2023 North American Indigenous Games! Please fill in all fields with as much detail as possible. We want to ensure that you are assigned a volunteer role that matches your skills and experience. The Volunteer Services team will follow up with you approximately two weeks after your application has been submitted. Note: Your full application should take approximately 8 to 10 minutes to complete.
Clothing provided will be unisex. Best efforts will be made for you to be equipped with the appropriate size.

Our minimum time commitment for Games Time volunteers (whose commitment is from July 15 -23, 2023) is 3 shifts or 18 hours.
During the Games, volunteer shifts will generally be 4-8 hours long, and start times will vary depending on venue and the services provided.
Selecting Before Games means that you are interested in: supporting NAIG leading up to the Games, or interested in assisting with venue set up. After the Games includes venue and event tear down.
Morning (6:00am - 12:00pm)

NAIG 2023 Volunteer Code of Conduct and Volunteer Commitment:
I understand that my participation with the 2023 North American Indigenous Games is a voluntary activity and that I am donating my time and my labour by my own free choice. I recognize that I will only be assigned shifts once I have completed two mandatory training sessions (NAIG Orientation and Cultural awareness training).
I agree to commit to all assigned shifts and perform my assigned tasks in a responsible manner.
Volunteer positions have some risk associated with them. While the 2023 North American Indigenous Games strives to reduce these risks, they can never be completely eliminated. In consideration of the mutual covenants set out herein, and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which I hereby acknowledge, I covenant and agree as follows:
I, the Volunteer, indemnify, release and hold harmless the 2023 North American Indigenous Games and its successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, suits, causes of action, proceedings, expenses, costs damages or losses, contingent or otherwise, of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which arise or may hereafter arise, directly or indirectly, from my volunteer work with the organization
I understand that this Waiver and indemnity discharges the 2023 North American Indigenous Games from any liability or claim that I, the Volunteer, may have against the Games with respect to bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death, or property damage that may result, directly or indirectly, from my participation. I also fully understand that 2023 North American Indigenous Games does not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial assistance or other assistance, including, but not limited to, medical, health or disability insurance, in the event of injury, illness, death or property damage.
Confidentiality
Volunteers must respect and maintain confidentiality regarding information that has come into their possession during their participation with the 2023 North American Indigenous Games. Confidential Information includes, but is not limited to, software, know-how, trade secrets, technical personal information, and business information relating to the Host Society’s plans, development models, inventions, products, services, finances, customers, members, marketing, future business and sponsorship plans and any other information which is identified as confidential by the Host Society. It also includes third party information which is received by the Host Society in confidence, including information received from clients, customers, potential business partners, sponsors, buyers and others.
Personal Privacy Consent
I understand that NAIG 2023 will collect and store personal information about me. In accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the policies of the Host Society, personal information received from me will be held securely and in confidence, and will be used only for communication purposes and general record keeping. By sharing my personal information with you, I have consented to those uses and disclosures.
Conflict Management
Any conflicts within the volunteer workforce or with staff should be raised promptly so as to focus on respectful resolution. If a conflict arises in the work of the committee, which the individual is unable to resolve, the Committee Chair or staff lead should be contacted for assistance.
Contact with Media and Stakeholders
The Host Society wishes to establish widespread public awareness of the 2023 North American Indigenous Games, and volunteers may be contacted to participate in media interviews by the marketing, communications and media team. If a volunteer is contacted by the media directly, students, etc., statements must be coordinated with the MCM team, who will also work with the Chair of the appropriate volunteer committee. Volunteers may only express an opinion as volunteer workers. This means, for example, that they may not make general statements on behalf of the Host Society.
Drugs, Cannabis and Alcohol
The Host Society prohibits the possession, sale, distribution, use or being under the influence of illegal drugs, cannabis, alcohol, or any other substances that may affect performance and behaviour while working for the Host Society. Use of performance-impairing substances prior to and/or during a volunteer work shift is not allowed and may result in termination.
Equal treatment
Everyone who takes part in the 2023 North American Indigenous Games is to be treated equally and without fear of harassment. The Host Society has a zero tolerance approach with respect to personal / sexual harassment.Personal/sexual harassment in any form is strictly prohibited and may be grounds for termination as a volunteer.
Sexual harassment is any conduct, comment, gesture or contact of a sexual nature that one would find to be unwanted or unwelcome by any individual, or that might, on reasonable grounds, be perceived by that individual as placing a condition of sexual nature on employment or career development.
Personal harassment means any conduct whether verbal or physical that is discriminating in nature, based upon another person’s race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, political beliefs, religion, marital status, physical or mental disability, sex, age or sexual orientation. It is discriminatory behaviour, directed at an individual that is unwanted or unwelcome and causes substantial distress in that person and serves no legitimate work-related purpose.
Use of NAIG 2023 Property and Name
Any items, vehicles, property or other assets belonging to the Host Society are only to be used in connection with work for the 2023 North American Indigenous Games.
The 2023 North American Indigenous Games name must not be used in an attempt to achieve discounts in connection with the purchase of items for private use or to gain other privileges to which the volunteer is not legally entitled. All material that is devised for and with the 2023 North American Indigenous Games is the property of the Host Society, without the Host Society having to provide remuneration for such, including intellectual property rights and the right to make changes to what is produced. Photography or video recordings of events or volunteers may also be used by the Host Society for promoting, reporting, and marketing and in any other respect without volunteers opposing this or demanding payment for the use.
Use of Technology
Personal use of 2023 North American Indigenous Games systems including internet, email, telephones and mobile devices is a privilege; 2023 North American Indigenous Games volunteers are expected to keep personal use at a reasonable level. Streaming media through 2023 North American Indigenous Games systems is for Games-related purposes only, if required by your volunteer position.
Covid-19 Protocol
As a NAIG 2023 volunteer, I understand that I may be asked to stay home if I am experiencing any of the following symptoms that could be Covid-19 related: sore throat, body aches, fatigue, fever, cough (etc). The Host Society requests that all volunteers follow the health directives from Nova Scotia Health Authority.
I also agree to follow precautionary steps such as regularly washing my hands or using hand sanitizer.
Vaccination Declaration
I declare that I am fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (an individual is defined as fully immunized greater than 14 days after receiving their second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine series that has been approved by Health Canada, or any combination of vaccine that has been approved by Health Canada), or have obtained a valid Medical or Religious/Creed exemption. I understand that I will be required to provide proof of vaccination or exemption as part of my application to volunteer, and will be able to provide the appropriate documentation, when requested.
Photo/Video Release
I consent and understand that images, photos and videos may be taken during my performance as a Volunteer and used by the Host Society and NAIG Council as part of their official, promotional, or educational documentation, regardless of the medium, form or support used and without any compensation.
By agreeing to the NAIG 2023 Volunteer Code of Conduction and Volunteer Commitment, I commit to following and uplifting the Code and affirming my volunteer commitment.
